Ahh, January. The month where it’s dull, dark, and depressing. At least for me. I was hoping maybe January would kick off the new year with positive vibes, but nope. This January was just as dull and dragging as previous years. It’s just not my month I guess. I find I easily get annoyed and cranky during this month. I think most people would consider me a friendly and approachable person, but little do they know that I can get annoyed at people too. I just do a better job of controlling my emotions/facial expressions. (My brother, parents, and a couple of friends will probably disagree with that last sentence lol)
So I thought, why not celebrate the end of January, by sharing some of the types of annoying people I came across this month.
- People who criticize or get offended for every single minuscule thing. Even when a celebrity or a company does something good, somehow someone STILL finds fault.
- So I read about how Uniqlo was giving out free clothing to people in Toronto, and I thought that was cool of them. I wasn’t interested in going, but I did find it was a nice gesture on their part because it’s not everyday you see other companies doing this. However, then they got backlash over this because some felt like they could be giving away the free clothing to those that are homeless instead. I understand that, but it’s not like Uniqlo specified the kind of people that were eligible for the free clothing. It was meant to be inclusive of everyone in Toronto… Anyways, I think they did end up donating to charities as well in addition to the original free give away. But it just made me annoyed that no matter how much good you do, there’s always going to be someone thinking you could have done better. You really can’t impress them all.
- People who expect you to know about every single illness out there because you are a nurse.
- Oh man the number of times I had friends and family listing me their symptoms and asking me what it could be. Do I look like I studied so many years to diagnose illnesses like doctors or nurse practitioners? I mean, if I know the answers, I’d feel ecstatic to know that I was able to use my expertise to help you. But if, for example (this didn’t happen), you ask me an oncology related question when my focus is respiratory management, chances are, I may not have come across a patient with such conditions, so I won’t have the best answers for you. I can however, look it up in my textbooks and research about it and let you know because I do want to help you. What annoys me though, is when I don’t have the answers right away, and so they respond with, “But I thought you’re a nurse”. Ugh. *Rolls eyes*
- People who don’t know how to be straight up with you / are confusing as fuck.
- I like it when people are straight up with me. I’m not 5 years old – tell me like it is. I can handle it. So I reactivated the dating app, met someone nice, and didn’t feel that strong of a connection when I met him in person, but didn’t mind a second date if there was one, before I decide if I want it to go somewhere or not. So this person seemed to still show interest in me via texting, so I figured he was interested in meeting up again. Five days had passed since we met up, and it was just a bunch of small talk that we exchanged (which I’m not good at keeping up), but nothing was mentioned about meeting up again. So I thought whatever, screw it, I am just going to be straight up (even though one of my friends told me not to because it makes me seem “thirsty” … Daniel, there’s your damn shout out lol) and ask if he was talking to me not knowing how to end it or whether he was interested in a 2nd date. I also told him where I stood. He responds with how he likes that I am straight up, and that he was interested in hanging out a second time as well before knowing where it could go. GREAT! We are on the same page!!! So then tell me why he doesn’t follow that up with when to meet up?! -_-. So I sucked up my pride yet again, and the next day asked if he wanted to meet up that evening. He said he was going to be busy at work… and you guessed it right folks… he didn’t follow up with a time that works for him. SO, I am done. I can’t deal with this crap. Be a man, tell it like it is and know what you want. Jeez.
- People who ask for help, not because they genuinely need it, but because they are lazy to do it themselves.
- Before I sound like I am some Grinch, I want to mention that I do help a lot of my friends when I can, especially if it’s something I have an interest in / good at. Last year I helped a friend of mine to paint her walls and stain her hardwood floors at her new house. She knew how to do it, but with more hands, the job will get done faster and it was fun catching up with her while doing it. I don’t mind that. But when someone asks me to do something, that I know they can easily do themselves, I get so annoyed. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of searching it up on the internet. GOOGLE IT!!! It’s 2017 for heaven’s sake – I don’t understand how some people don’t know that you can search almost anything by typing into the search bar on Google. Once there was someone who didn’t know how to navigate on a website, so I helped her out, went through the tabs slowly and made sure she understood everything I was doing. So after an hour or so, I told her now she should be confident in using this website in the future. Her response? “Oh what, no way I am never using this site on my own in case I press the wrong buttons. I will call you to come again to do it for me” My reaction:
Wow, this “rant” felt kind of therapeutic tbh. I realize I myself may have come across as annoying to some by complaining about these things haha. Meh, whatever. I had a few more, but this post became longer than I had expected. Maybe a part 2 in the future?!?!

So I’m totally with you about January. For me, every January sucks no matter what. It’s weird. A few weeks ago, I got a flat tire and sort of knew how to change it but I googled it to give myself some guidance along the way. When someone stopped to help, they looked at me like I had 15 heads when I told them I was watching a YouTube video on how to change it! At least I was being an adult in this era and researching it myself instead of standing there like a lost doe in the woods.
